Bacfarm won the final of the sixth edition of the Contamination Lab of the University of Cagliari. On the podium the members of the team Giulia Guadalupi, Samuele Antonio Gaviano and Davide Emilio Lobina have received the affection and warmth of the Teatro Massimo.
The startup extracts high valuable molecules from an innovative source: bacteria. In particular, it obtains carotenoids, which have wide use in different fields of application: nutraceuticals, cosmetics, high tech industries, and more. Bacfarm uses a technology patented by the University of Cagliari, that was born in the Plant Physiology and Photobiology Laboratory directed by prof. Dario Piano with the collaboration of Dr. Domenica Farci.
The team takes home a € 15,000 prize offered by Sardegna Ricerche, Banco di Sardegna, Fondazione di Sardegna, Banca di Cagliari, Ingegni artigianato e design, and services offered by Confindustria and The Net Value.
